Three new presumptive cases of COVID-19 in Alberta

Alberta is now dealing with one confirmed and three presumptive cases of coronavirus. Sarolta Saskiw has more on where health officials suspect these COVID-19 cases came from.

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The provincial total of presumptive COVID-19 cases is climbing, now up to three, including a second in the Calgary zone.

The first case, announced on Thursday, has been confirmed by the national lab in Winnipeg.

Two new cases announced Sunday include a man in his 60s from the Edmonton zone and a woman in her 30s from the Calgary zone who are now both in isolation.

These new cases are travel-related with the man recently being on a Grand Princess cruise ship and returning on Feb. 21.

The fourth case involving someone who had recently been in close contact with someone who went to Ukraine, Turkey, and the Netherlands.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Deena Hinshaw explained the scope of testing in Alberta.

“It is also important to know that 299 tests were done for COVID-19 and 297 of those tests were negative. What these cases do tells us is the approach Alberta is taking is the right one. ”

“As we investigate the close contract of these cases we may find additional cases that come up,” added Hinshaw.

The risk to the public is still considered low.
