CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Concern surrounding COVID-19 has now made its way to the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) as several international trips are cancelled.

Five trips to Japan, Italy and Taiwan in March and April were cut and the CBE said more cancellations are possible as other trips are under review.

The board said the safety of staff and students is a high priority and that the decision to cancel wasn’t easy.

Meetings for families affected by the cancellations are scheduled for next week.

Last month, Edmonton Public Schools and the Catholic school board announced it was cancelling several international trips due to coronavirus concerns.

The University of Calgary has temporarily suspended all school-related travel to China.
