LETHBRIDGE (660 NEWS) – A southern Alberta city is now the first in the province to offer green burials.
The process allows you to bury your loved one without embalming or using a casket.
“Green Burial is something we are very proud to be able to offer our residents,” said Hiroshi Okubo, Cemeteries Manager for the City of Lethbridge. “Because we have a supportive partnership with our local funeral homes we’ve been able to be a leader in the province in rolling out this type of program.”
The city says this method minimizes the impact on the environment by returning a body to the earth where it can decompose naturally and contribute to the growth of new life.
We're proud to be the 1st AB municipality to offer a more sustainable & environmentally friendly burial option called Green Burial. Several cities and towns in B.C. and Ontario, including Victoria and Niagra Falls offer a green burial site.
Calgary and Edmonton offer green burials options but through privately-owned funeral homes.
