Over two-dozen dogs recovered from home in Marlborough Park

Neighbours describe a horrid smell coming out of a northeast home as about 30 dogs were seized. More on the reported conditions inside from a woman who said she used to watch the animals. Crystal Laderas has more.

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgary police and the Humane Society are investigating after around 30 dogs were found inside a northeast home Thursday morning.

Police were called to the home in Marlborough Park for another matter when they found the animals.

The Calgary Humane Society was immediately brought in to assist around 9:00 a.m.

“We found a high number of dogs, concerning environmental conditions within (the home) that necessitated the removal of the animals,” said Brad Nichols with the Humane Society. “We are in the range of about 30 dogs that have been removed and that ranges from puppies to adult dogs.”

The head of the society’s animal cruelty investigations describes what staff encountered when they entered the home.

“A high ammonia level, waste on the floors. It was concerning and would have the potential to impact the health of an animal.”

Nichols said the dogs are now being assessed and treated.

He added charges won’t be laid until staff have a full picture of what kind of distress the animals endured.
