CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The controversy over a Calgary councillor’s expenses has now led to a petition asking him to step down.

The online petition, which was posted Wednesday night, calls for Ward 2 Councillor Joe Magliocca to resign.

Magliocca has been under fire for expensing over $6,000 in food and alcohol while attending the Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference last year.

Those who have already signed the petition have called Magliocca hypocritical and corrupt and said this expense scandal amounts to fraud.

Earlier this week, the integrity commissioner who was investigating Magliocca, disqualified himself from the probe after discovering a lunch he had with the councillor was expensed.

There are now calls for that commissioner to step down and police to take over the investigation.

Magliocca has apologized for the expenses and said he plans to repay just over $2,000 of the bill.
