City councillor doesn’t think changes are needed with expenses

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgary’s longest-serving councillor says he doesn’t think major changes to how council members’ expenses are dealt with are needed, despite the Magliocca debacle.

Ward 10’s Ray Jones says that this was a mistake on Magliocca’s part and that it does not represent the entire council.

“This is one issue out of probably one hundred members of council that have been around since I’ve been here.”

In response to audit committee members potentially taking over expenses, Jones says it’s ultimately up to the council and says they will be reviewing the policy.

However, he says he doesn’t see a difference and takes offence to the potential change as he is on the committee that currently looks into expenses.

“Councillor Magliocca apologized in council, and he has also paid back the amount that was in question. So, he has done his due diligence, and he’s come to the forefront, and admitted he was wrong and paid it back.”
