‘I didn’t think it would be such a big deal’: Bus-surfer speaks out

MONTREAL (CityNews) – The woman seen holding onto a Montreal city bus in a now-viral video is speaking out and doesn’t recommend other people try the same stunt.

In a video posted to social media over the weekend, 19-year-old Cassandre Thomas is seen holding onto the back of a Montreal city bus, sliding down a road on her backside.

But since getting a lot of internet attention, Thomas is now saying she doesn’t recommend anyone else try it.

“Don’t try it, it’s a bad idea,” she told CityNews.

“I saw the opportunity to do it. I planned everything. I saw the road was clear, there were no potholes. Everything was calculated I saw it was the time to do it.”

Her Instagram page is filled with other stunts, but Thomas says growing up in Saint-Martin, Carribean, she didn’t think it would gain so much attention.

“When I did it, I didn’t know it was going to be such a big deal. I come from Saint-Martin, I grew up having such big freedom over there, I don’t really know,” she explained.

“I don’t’ want to say that there aren’t rules there but it’s bigger freedom, for example, we don’t have red lights.”

Her dad, Hervé Thomas first saw the video through a news article.

He and his wife are afraid for her with these stunts, but support her doing it professionally.

Cassandre says she trains so she can one day do these kinds of stunts professionally.

“I know she’s cautious, she prepares, she’s careful,” Hervé told CityNews.

“She never had any broken legs or anything, no hospitals. So I know she’s able, but we’re still afraid to see this kind of video.”

Montreal police denounced the video saying it is extremely dangerous.

The fine is anywhere between $1,000 and $3,000 and could set you back 12 demerit points.
