Alberta to open office in Quebec to promote energy

The Alberta government plans to open up a trade office in Montreal to promote the province’s energy sector. Rachelle Elsiufi reports .

MONTREAL (660 NEWS) – The Alberta government is taking its fight over opposition to the province’s oilsands to the streets of Quebec.

During a trip to Montreal, Premier Jason Kenney announced the government will be opening a trade office in that city.

Kenney tweeted saying the office will ensure Albertans voices are heard adding Quebec has benefited enormously from this province’s resources.

The office is due to open in Montreal this spring and will be headed up by a former Quebecer who spent several years in Alberta.

Kenney is also travelling to Washington, D.C., to promote investments and pipelines, meeting with media, business leaders and U.S. governors.

It’s not clear how much the office will cost the government, however in the latest Alberta Budget the Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Tourism does have $45 million available per year to spend on trade and investment attraction, an increase from $22 million in the previous government’s budget.
