Flames look to continue playoff push, welcome Sharks

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — The Calgary Flames are hoping to turn the page after a weekend drubbing at the hands of the Edmonton Oilers.

“We’ve got to be smart in the defensive zone,” winger Johnny Gaudreau offered ahead of Tuesday’s tilt against the visiting San Jose Sharks. “The most important thing in this locker room right now is winning each game, getting more points and climbing up the standings.”

There’s little margin for error in the Pacific Division. Entering action against the Sharks, the Flames occupy the first wild card spot with 60 points. The Arizona Coyotes are hot on their heels with 59 points and are set to host Edmonton Tuesday. The Oilers sit second in the Pacific with 62 points.

This marks the second game between the Flames and Sharks this season. San Jose beat Calgary 3-1 back in October.

“We’ve got to come out flying tonight,” blueliner Rasmus Andersson said. “We’ve got to come out harder and not let them skate around in our zone.”

The two teams will meet again on Feb. 10 in San Jose.
