Calgary pedophile appealing dangerous offender status

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A Calgary pedophile doesn’t think he should be considered a danger to the public and wants his offender status overturned.

In a handwritten submission to the court, 60-year-old Kenneth Hornby is requesting his dangerous offender designation be dropped and instead replaced with a five-year sentence along with a couple of years of probation.

“I believe with continued treatment programs that I can curb my behaviour,” he penned.

His crimes of sexual abuse and molestation spanned over three decades.

Hornby draws attention to the point that he had a 20-year break in between his crimes, and since he didn’t molest children during that time, he believes he can rehab.

He also makes the argument his lawyers did not sufficiently defend him.

“The submissions from the various writers in my dangerous offender package focused mainly on my past behaviour and convictions, however, did not take into account the more than two decades of no sexual nature offences.”

Hornby was sentenced on Jan. 17 following a two-week dangerous offender hearing. This came after he pleaded guilty to sexual interference after admitting he sexually abused a five-year-old boy in a back alley in Calgary.

Right now, it’s not known when the court will hear the sentence appeal.
