Closures on Glenmore Trail SW starting this weekend

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Be prepared for some major traffic delays starting this weekend in the city’s southwest.

Multiple sporadic closures will take place on Glenmore Trail SW beginning Sunday as construction on the ring road continues.

“KGL is completing demolition of the existing 37 Street southwest overpass,” said Cassandra Carver with KGL Constructors, adding lanes on both east and westbound Glenmore Trail will be affected.

The majority of the closures will take place overnight to minimize the impact on drivers.

Carver adds there are ways to get around the chaos from the closures.

“In order to assist motorists, we are installing a series of detours to ensure public traffic can navigate around the work taking place. We’ve implemented various message boards and detour signage will be installed to direct the flow of traffic.”

According to the Calgary Southwest Ring Road website, Calgary police will also be present to help traffic move through these detours.

On Thursday, a part of northbound Sarcee Trail south of Richmond Road will be closed as crews install a guard rail as part of the ring road project.

Road work on Glenmore Trail and 37 St. SW is expected to wrap up by Feb. 19.

Construction on the southwest ring road is supposed to be completed by the end of 2021.
