CALGARY (660 NEWS) – What does the future hold for Calgary’s Green Line LRT?

Members of the Green Line committee met behind closed doors Tuesday, one day after Mayor Naheed Nenshi announced cuts to Calgary Transit.

Ward nine councillor Gian-Carlo Carra said despite some funding issues with transit, the Green Line project is expected to move forward.

“We’re discussing the alignment that’s been worked out and getting council on the same page before we go out to the public and spend the next couple months engaging the public on how the finalized alignment meets all the objectives that we set out.”

Tuesday’s discussions were kept behind closed doors.

“We’re in-camera today to allow us the opportunity to openly discuss commercially sensitive financial and legal information,” explained Green Line manager Michael Thompson.

In December, the Green Line committee was supposed to meet to review three proposed designs for the line. That meeting, however, was delayed until this month.

The final recommendations for the Green Line alignment are expected in March and the city is still anticipating construction to start in 2021.
