Calgary Hitmen fall short to the Wheat Kings 3-1

Brandon, MB – The Brandon Wheat Kings extended their win streak to eight games thanks to a 3-1 victory over the visiting Calgary Hitmen on Friday night at Westoba Place.

The Wheat Kings would score two unanswered goals in the first period, from Duncan Pierce just 1:43 into the opening frame and at 19:38 on the power play from Jake Chiasson.

Brayden Peter stopped 31 shots for the Hitmen, and Jiri Patera made 30 saves for Brandon.

Peters made a few incredible saves for Calgary in the third period, stopping Luka Buran and Connor Gutenberg to keep the Hitmen in the game.

Josh Prokop would net the lone goal for Calgary, cutting the Brandon lead to 2-1 with less than four minutes remaining in the final period, until Neithan Salame scored into an empty net in the last minute.

The Hitmen went 0-1 on the power play while Brandon ended the contest going 1-6.

Calgary’s five-game road trip heads to Winnipeg for back to back dates with the ICE on Saturday, Jan. 18 and Sunday, Jan. 19 before concluding in Red Deer (Jan. 25).

The next Hitmen home game is not until Sunday, Jan. 26 for a rematch with the Rebels.
