AESO returns to normal operations after issuing emergency alert

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The province’s electrical system’s operator has returned to normal conditions after issuing an emergency alert.

On Thursday morning, the Alberta Electric Systems Operator (AESO) issued the level one emergency alert following a spike in demand.

The alert meant the operator may have to start using reserves to power the province.

On Monday night, AESO issued a level two alert after two generators went offline.

As temperatures remain in the extreme cold levels, AESO said it’s monitoring the power grid and will provide updates if alerts need to be issued again.
