Cannabis edibles arrive in Calgary

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The day is finally here as cannabis edibles are coming to stores in Calgary.

Although edibles were legalized in October, many retailers said it would take months until the products were available.

Many retailers are excited for edibles to arrive but say they won’t stay on the shelves for long.

“I think a lot of people have been wondering what it’s going to look like,” said Amber Craig with Four 20 Premium Market. “We’ve seen some of the sample products come in, and they’re very high-end, very impressed with the quality.”

Craig anticipates her shelves will be bare within an hour of the products arriving.

She also offers some advice to those new to trying edibles.

“We recommend starting with the lowest amount, which is two-and-a-half milligrams of THC and wait an hour-and-a-half to see how you feel before you try it again.”

Health Canada has placed regulations on edible cannabis products in terms of the amount of THC it can have and how it’s packaged.

Products can’t have more than 10mg of THC per edible, and the package is capped at a maximum of 50 mg and can’t contain nicotine, caffeine or alcohol.

Edibles must not appeal to kids, which would take into account factors such as shape, flavour and scent, and must be contained in plain, child-proof packaging.
