University of Calgary Students to protest tuition and fee increase proposals

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Members of the University of Calgary’s Graduate Students Association and Students Union are set to host a demonstration on Friday at the Board of Governors meeting.

The demonstration is set to take place as the board votes on tuition and fee increase proposals.

The five per cent tuition hike would affect costs for domestic students while international students could be paying up to ten per cent more.

WATCH:

Students will be rallying in solidarity, raising concerns with the hike.

Last month, graduate students asked administration to consider an increase of no more than two per cent and increase financial support for students.

On Friday, graduate students will be looking to have the Board of Governors amend the currently proposed 5% tuition hike for continuing students and instead tie any increases to the consumer price index.
