University of Calgary identifies two alumni killed in Iran plane crash

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The University of Calgary is mourning two former students killed in the plane crash in Iran.

In a statement released Thursday, the university said two alumni were among the 63 Canadians who died in the crash.

Marzieh Foroutan, graduated in 2017 and was studying at the University of Waterloo.

Shadi Jamshidi who graduated in 2014 was working as a technical sales representative in Mississauga.

“The University of Calgary expresses its condolences to the families and friends of the two alumni, and to members of Calgary’s Iranian community, including the university’s Iranian Students’ Association,” the statement reads.

The school has lowered it’s flag on campus to half-mast in the wake of the crash.

Around 30 Albertans died in the plane crash including a high school student and airline technician from Calgary.
