Flames look for payback in Chicago, milestone night for Lindholm

CHICAGO (660 NEWS) — The Calgary Flames take a two-game winning streak into Chicago hoping for some retribution.

The Flames fell to the Blackhawks a week ago, dropping a 5-3 New Year’s Eve contest, one where Chicago exploded to a 4-0 lead before the home team finished short of a comeback at the Saddledome.

“I certainly think we have to be aware away from the puck, and we have to be better that way than we were the last game,” interim head coach Geoff Ward offered after Tuesday’s morning skate in the Windy City. “I thought we gave up our blueline a little bit too easily. We allowed them to get an awful lot of speed from underneath us. As a result, they were able to get through us easier than what we would’ve liked. Those are things you’ll have to pay attention to tonight.

“They are a good hockey club. They’re playing well right now. They work extremely hard, and they’ve got some extremely talented players there. It’s going to take a real strong effort for us tonight to have success in here.”

The closer of Calgary’s two-game road trip also marks a special milestone for one of the team’s forwards.

“It’s a good number,” Elias Lindholm said with a smile. “But, you probably look more toward 1,000 than the 500. It’s a lot of games and a lot of preparation. A lot of hard work. It’s been a long way to get here, but obviously, I have enjoyed it so far.”

The Flames are going with Cam Talbot in goal who earned a win in his last start on Jan. 2 against the New York Rangers.

Calgary currently sits a point out of a wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

Action from Chicago begins at 6:30 p.m. on Sportsnet West and Sportsnet 960 The Fan.
