Charges laid after peace officer threatened with knife in Cardston

CARDSTON (660 NEWS) — RCMP have laid charges against a man following an incident in Cardston, southwest of Lethbridge, on New Year’s Eve.
Around 6 p.m. on December 31, a Community Peace Officer was threatened by a man with a knife outside the local RCMP detachment.
The officer requested help from other officers to apprehend the man where they worked to conduct a high-risk arrest.
The man then put the knife down and fled.

He didn’t make it far and was apprehended close to the detachment after a short confrontation with police.
No officers were injured.
Brenden Kurt Eagle Speaker, 24, has been charged with assault on a police officer with a weapon, as well as a pair of other charges.
