Calgary gets ready to celebrate the new year

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Where will you be when 2020 arrives in Calgary?

Despite cutbacks from recent budget restraints, the City of Calgary is still preparing for a fun New Year’s Eve event.

All eyes will be on the Calgary Tower at midnight where the fireworks will be on full display.

Other events are planned throughout the day including family activities at the Central Library and Studio Bell and skating at Olympic Plaza until midnight.

Some leisure centres including Southland and Village Square are hosting family-fun events.

In Bowness Park the holiday lights are on with fire pits to keep you warm. The hours of operation for the lights have been extended to 1 a.m.

With the festivities come road and sidewalk closures near the Calgary Tower downtown beginning Tuesday and lasting into the early hours Wednesday.
