Car2Gone: SHARE NOW leaving North America, some European markets

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Ride-sharing in Vancouver is about to become a little harder. SHARE NOW has announced it will be pulling out of North America and some European cities.

Formerly known as Car2Go, SHARE NOW says it will end operations in some locations on Feb. 29 of next year.

In a news release, it cites the “volatile state of the global mobility landscape” and the lack of necessary infrastructure for the decision.

SHARE NOW will continue operation in 18 European cities, but its vehicles will no longer be available in Canada, the U.S., as well as London, Brussels and Florence.

In Canada, the company operates in Montreal and Vancouver. It previously discontinued service in Toronto in May of 2018 over issues with parking.

In the U.S., operations will cease in New York, Seattle and Washington, D.C.

The company changed its name from Car2Go to SHARE NOW earlier this year when it merged with BMW’s car share service.

SHARE NOW has more than 200,000 members in Vancouver.
