TORONTO – Twitter Canada is out with the most popular hashtags, most followed athletes, politicians and entertainers in Canada in 2019.
The most mentioned hashtag of the year by Canadians was #cdnpoli thanks to the federal election.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau the highest mentioned politician, Andrew Scheer coming in 2nd followed by Ontario’s Doug Ford.
Mayor Nenshi was the 5th most mentioned Canadian mayor, Toronto’s John Tory taking top spot.
The most used Canadian city hashtag was #toronto, #yyc was 3rd.
Musician Shawn Mendes was the most mentioned Canadian Twitter account.
Ryan Reynolds was the most mentioned Canadian actor.
The most mentioned Canadian by sport was baseball’s Mike Soroka who hails from Calgary.
The Maple Leaf’s Mitch Marner was the highest Canadian hockey player, coming in 5th.
The top athlete was Bianca Andreescu followed by RJ Barrett.
The Toronto Raptors were the top sports team, the Calgary Flames placing 5th.
