CALGARY (660 NEWS) – It is one of the only remnants of Sears left in the country but it’s not a positive memory.
An environmental appeals board hearing is underway to find out who should be responsible for what’s been dubbed the ‘Sears plume’.
The gas station used to exist at the old Sears location at North Hill Mall from the 1940s to the 90s.
A leak at that location still hasn’t been cleaned up and is slowly moving its way to the Bow River.
Who should pay to clean up a mess left by a Sears gas station at North Hills Mall that has been decommissioned since the '90s? Today is the last of a 3 day hearing. Several concerned citizens & stakeholders are here. Closing remarks expected to start around 2 p.m. #yyc @660NEWS pic.twitter.com/n5yC88vJ9F

Sears Canada declared bankruptcy in early 2018 which has complicated the cleanup.
Nearby residents have complained about the issue not being resolved for years.
