Amazon is hosting a conference on cloud computing in Las Vegas, but its controversies keep coming up

The larger company is dogged by critics over issues, including corporate concentration and treatment of workers

LAS VEGAS (NEWS 1130) –¬†Amazon is hosting the world’s largest cloud-computing conference this week in Las Vegas, but it is unclear if the company’s controversies will be part of the high-tech discussion.

The cloud is generating tens of billions of dollars in revenue and Amazon Web Services leads the sector. This week, the AWS re:Invent conference is hosting the global cloud-computing community, with seminars and networking.

But even as it is celebrated, the larger company is dogged by critics over issues including corporate concentration and the treatment of its warehouse workers.

Eric Gales, the head of AWS in Canada, says those issues are just a consequence of being a big company.

“We just remain focused on our customers and making sure that we are always doing the right things for our customers, and that will keep us on the straight and narrow, as it were,” he told NEWS 1130.

AWS re:Invent is expected to attract 60,000 people and runs until Dec. 6.
