CALGARY — On Friday, Calgary Flames GM Brad Treliving announced Bill Peters had resigned as head coach of the Calgary Flames following allegations earlier this week from Akim Aliu that Peters had directed racial slurs towards him 10 years ago.

During the press conference, Treliving also announced Geoff Ward would take over head coaching on an interim basis.

“Geoff Ward will be our interim coach,” Treliving said at the end of his statement Friday.

When the Flames played in Buffalo Wednesday night, their first game without Peters on the bench, Ward’s assistants were Craig Conroy, Ryan Huska and Martin Gelinas.
