Is vehicle safety technology actually safe? Canadians aren’t sure

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) –  Your car can brake automatically to avoid a crash. It beeps to warn you if something is in your blind spot. And the steering wheel vibrates if you start to drift out of your lane.

New vehicle safety technology sounds good, but nearly half of Canadian drivers believe it actually poses a risk to road safety.

A survey released by Desjardins Insurance finds four-in-ten think drivers in Canada are overly reliant on safety technology.

At the same time, half of those surveyed think vehicle safety features help reduce the number of collisions and keep roads safer.

Most say more needs to be done to ensure drivers actually understand the safety features that come with their car.
