Charges laid in August sex assault

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgary police have laid sex assault charges in relation to a random attack in the city’s southwest earlier this year.

Around 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 15, a woman was walking through a parking lot on Southport Road near Southport Lane. Police say that’s when a man pulled into the lot, got out of his car, and followed the woman.

Investigators believe the suspect approached her from behind and began touching her without her consent.

He took off shortly after that.

Now, police have charged Alejandro Marin, 20, with sexual assault and operating a motor vehicle without a license in connection to the assault.

An attack on an 11-year-old girl similar to this one happened in Sept. in Cedarbrae, but police are not sure yet if the two cases are linked.

Anyone with information regarding either case can call CPS or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
