Calgarians urged to shop locally over the holidays

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgarians are being encouraged to look around their community first when getting their holiday shopping done, rather than just hopping online

The city is launching a Buy Local campaign this year, to support businesses and the economy as a whole.

Annie MacInnis, Executive Director Kensington Business Revitalization Zone, says buying local helps you connect with your community.

“There are so many experiences to be had in small, independent businesses,” said MacInnis. “We as Calgarians can handle the cold. Plan to walk a little bit, that’s what this experience is all about.”

MacInnis says buying local means you can pair a gift with a story about how you found it.

“You’ll be able to say I bought this from a Calgary entrepreneur, and they’re a brick and mortar business.”

You’re also encouraged to use the hashtag #BuyLocalYYC while on your gift buying adventures.
