Police arrest five and seize huge cache of drugs in southern Alberta bust

BROOKS (660 NEWS) — Police in southern Alberta have arrested five men and seized tens of thousands of dollars worth of drugs after making a bust at the end of October.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) concluded a three-month drug trafficking investigation by searching a home in Brooks that was believed to be connected to a drug operation.

On Oct. 24, ALERT’s Medicine Hat organized crime team executed a search warrant with the help of officers from Brooks and Medicine Hat, seizing a total of 719 grams of methamphetamine and 93 grams of cocaine as well as a sniper rifle, a machete and more than $24,000 in cash.

Three men were arrested at the scene, including 33-year-old Kyle Potts who is alleged to be the ringleader of the operation and faces 20 charges in total.

David Boyer, 33, and Daniel Morrison, 35, were also arrested at the home.

Dallas Johnson, 27, and David Kearly, 33, were arrested by Medicine Hat police in the days following the bust after warrants were issued.

“These are significant amounts of drugs and cash to take out of the hands of criminals,” said Staff Sgt. Kelsey Fraser, ALERT Medicine Hat.

“Along with the weapons seized, this is a good step toward making the communities of both Brooks and Medicine Hat safer places to live.”

Police estimate the street value of the seized drugs exceeds $77,000.
