Retired CPS member charged with assault

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A retired Calgary police officer has been charged with assault.

It all stems from an incident in late 2018, where a patrol officer saw a man kicking the doors to a business on 7 Avenue between 2 and 3 Street S.W.

It’s alleged the 29-year-member, identified as Eric Levesque, arrested the man kicking the doors for public intoxication. During the arrest, that’s when investigators believe the assault happened.

The altercation was reported to police and the Professional Standards Section, who conducted an investigation. After consulting with the Edmonton Crown Prosecutor’s office, the charge of assault was recommended.

At the time of the alleged assault, Levesque was working as a patrol officer in District 1.

Police will not be issuing any more information, as the case is now before the courts.
