Calgary — Kent Hehr has lost his riding of Calgary Centre to the Conservative Greg McLean.

Kent Hehr was the first Liberal candidate to represent Calgary Centre in the House of Commons in over 50 years.

Hehr ran against Green Party’s Thana Boonlert, Conservative’s Greg McLean, NPD’s Jessica Buresi, People’s Party’s Chevy Johnston and a couple more candidates.

Four years ago he beat out Conservative Joan Crockett to take the seat here, winning by just 700 votes in a very tight race.

He held the position of Minister of Sport and Person with Disabilities in his 2017-18 time in office. He also held the position of Minister of Veteran Affairs from 2015-17.

Raised by two school teachers, Hehr took part in many Calgary sporting endeavours, playing hockey with the Calgary Canucks and with the Mount Royal Cougars.

In 1991 Hehr was struck by a random act of gun violence leaving him a quadriplegic.

Hehr had made building a stronger middle class by making living more affordable and investing in middle-class entrepreneurs some of his key priorities.

In 2018, Hehr resigned from cabinet over sexual harassment allegations, however, he still sat with the party caucus.
