CALGARY (660 NEWS) — A large truck, pumping concrete into the under-construction new Calgary Cancer Centre, tipped over Thursday.

Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after 11 a.m.

“A cement boom truck, so sort of a pump truck to lift concrete to a different area was set up on a rated piece of ground, so it was rated for the weight of the truck and it actually gave way and so the truck listed over and caused the boom to strike the second floor of the hospital and did some minor damage,” said Battalion Chief Alistair Robin with the Calgary Fire Department.

Robin explains their technical rescue team came in and removed the cement from the truck so it could be righted.

No one was injured, the new cancer centre in northwest Calgary is set to open in 2023.

The City of Calgary says the Planning and Development Safety Codes Officer will be meeting with the construction company as they investigate the incident. Occupational Health and Safety has issued a stop work order for the cement pump truck that tipped over.
