Winsport to provide update on bobsleigh and luge track

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Demolition has already begun on a piece of Calgary’s sporting history.

An update will be provided Thursday morning on the future of the sliding track at Canada Olympic Park.

The track, used for the 1988 Winter Olympics closed indefinitely in March after Winsport said it was short $8 million to repair its refrigeration unit.

The closure of the track also forced the 2021 World Luge Championships to relocate from Calgary to Whistler.

It has been a controversial year for the sport in Canada, with Olympic gold medalist Kaillie Humphries accusing Bobsled Canada of failing to act on allegations of harassment.

She has been released from the team and can now try to compete for Team USA.
