At Olympic Plaza, Indigenous Relations Minister Rick Wilson fought back tears while telling stories and making a declaration that moving forward Oct. 4 is a day dedicated to spreading awareness about the MMIWG.
Josie Neepinak is the Executive Director of Awo Taan Healing Lodge Society and helped put all of this together.
“I do believe that the RCMP needs to be working closely with families of (MMIWG), right now it feels like there are two separate entities and I don’t believe that there is enough collaboration happening amongst the police services,” said Neepinak.
One of the many red dresses symbolizing the crisis will be on display at the Provincial Legislature in Edmonton.
