Kananaskis trails closed after dog attacked by cougar

KANANASKIS (660 NEWS) — Two popular trail areas in Kananaskis, west of Calgary, are off-limits to the public after a cougar attack.

Alberta Parks said a dog was attacked by a big cat, prompting the closure of Ha Ling Peak and East End of Rundle in Bow Valley Wildland Provincial Park.

Parks also warned that cougars can be encountered anywhere in the Kananaskis region, so people should travel in groups, make plenty of noise and keep pets on a leash.

The public is also asked to report any cougar sightings immediately to 403-591-7755.
