RCMP investigating threats against 2 high schools in Airdrie

AIRDRIE (660 NEWS) — Airdrie RCMP believe that threats against two high schools in Airdrie that are circulating on social media are related.

“At this time we are working diligently to determine the origin of these threats,” said. Cpl. Gina Slaney with Airdrie RCMP.

The threats were made against Bert Church and St. Martin de Porres over social media on the weekend and complaints from parents continue to pour in.

While there were no incidents at the schools today, Slaney notes that they had increased police presence around these schools.

The schools are involved, she said, and they’re doing what they need to do to ensure the safety of their students.

Rocky View Schools superintendent Greg Luterbach sent a letter to parents of students at Bert Church High School on Tuesday.

“The difficult part, especially with Snapchat, it’s very hard to trace the origin of where these messages come from,” Slaney pointed out.

“People are taking screenshots and sending them to us, but they have circulated so much from kid to kid to kid, we are having a very difficult time trying to determine who originally posted it.”

RCMP continue to receive messages from parents whose children have received the threats. They are asking anyone with information regarding where the message started to contact them.

“It’s a very serious matter, and if we determine who is responsible for this, they will be held accountable.”
