How do you feel about e-scooters? The City of Calgary wants to know

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — As the popularity of electric scooters in Calgary grows, the city wants you to provide feedback on the pilot program.

The survey is open until October 6 and the information collected is being included in a report that will be presented to council in December.

Riders and non-riders can participate, according to Andrew Sedor with the city’s transportation department.

“Everyone is sharing the same space.

So, scooters are currently allowed on the sidewalks, so we are interested in hearing pedestrians’ experience on sidewalks along with the people who are riding the e-scooters,” he said.

To date, over half a million trips have been taken on e-scooters in Calgary.

“It has been extremely popular,” he said. “We’ve been told we’re one of the three most popular markets in the world.”

Since the scooters hit Calgary streets in July, about 10 per cent of the city’s population has signed up to use them.

The city is working closely with Alberta Health Services to assess the health impact.

“We had a great meeting with them last week to talk about the methodology and the data sets that we want,” he said.

Sedor says the survey will have a lot of clout in determining the future of the program which will run through next summer.

They are also partnering with Calgary Police Service and bylaw to come up with strategies on how to enforce regulations.

The scooters will be taken off the streets will be removed between November and March during the winter.
