CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Alberta Health Services has issued a statement following the death of a patient who died after suffering catastrophic injuries from being struck by a CTrain on Monday afternoon.

“This is a tragic event and our sympathy goes out to family and friends of this individual.

AHS strives to find a balance between minimizing the risk of patients leaving our facilities while at the same time delivering compassionate, high-quality treatment in a caring, trusting environment.”

It’s unclear what the circumstances were around the patient’s release and no other details are being given due to patient confidentiality and privacy reasons.

AHS is reviewing the incident and continues to look at ways to improve their services including security and treatment of patients.

Calgary police confirmed that the 32-year-old man was a patient at Foothills Hospital.

The man was wearing a hospital gown at the time that he was struck by a passing westbound CTrain car on the 7 St. SW platform. He then became trapped in between two cars and was dragged a short distance, however, the driver of the train was unaware and continued on to Sunnyside station.
