Rent prices remain high in Calgary: report

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A new report shows how much Calgarians are paying for rent.

According to Rentals.ca, residents are paying about 36 per cent of their income on rent, with an average price of $1,479 for a two-bedroom apartment.

That price is the highest in Alberta, where the average in August was just under $1,230, while Lethbridge had one of the lowest rates at $1,014 for a two-bedroom unit.

The report showed prices stayed relatively flat in Calgary, while, nationally, rent went up by about 8 per cent over the last year.

Toronto topped the list with an average rent of $2,330 for a one-bedroom unit. Gatineau and Quebec City had the most affordable rent at $890 for a one-bedroom.
