September marks uptick in asthma cases

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — The kids are back to school, and that means a spike in asthma flare-ups.

Alberta Health Services is reminding parents this tends to happen a couple of weeks into the school year.

As a result, hospital admissions for asthma tend to spike by 20 to 25 percent.

The flare-ups are triggered by the common cold, stress, seasonal temperature changes or poor asthma management during the summer months.

The AHS says kids with asthma should ensure they take their medication as described and to get yourself vaccinated against the flu.

See a doctor if your child has asthma symptoms that don’t go away. If your child has severe asthma symptoms, go to the nearest emergency room.
