Calgary ranks fifth in world’s most livable cities

Punching well above its weight, at least in terms of population, Calgary is once again the top Canadian city in The Economist’s annual global livability ranking.

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Once again, Calgary has made a list of the world’s most liveable cities.

According to the latest report from The Economist, Calgary is the fifth most liveable city in the world, beating out Vancouver and Toronto.

Vienna took the top spot again followed by Melbourne, Sydney, and Osaka.

Last year, Calgary ranked fourth on the list.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi welcomed the news saying it shows Calgary’s resiliency despite a tough economy.

“People want to move here, people want to live here and that’s something we need to be screaming from the rooftops. It’s time to end the negativity and the down talk that we’ve had way too much of in the last couple of years and talk about what a great place this is.”

The list looked at several factors including stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure. Calgary scored 100 in all categories except culture and environment where they scored 90.

Vancouver and Toronto finished sixth and seventh respectively.

The Economist also ranked the least liveable cities, with the bottom three being Dhaka, Bangladesh, Lagos, Nigeria, and Damascus, Syria.
