‘Trampling upon our jurisdiction’: Alberta Energy Minister attacks Trudeau over Bill C-69

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) –  Less than two days after calling it a ‘dark day for Alberta and Canada’, the UCP government continues to fight against Bill C-69.

The Bill, known as The Act to enact the Impact Assessment Act and the Canadian Energy Regulator Act, will change the process to review and approve energy infrastructure projects.

While members of the Federal Liberals claim the Bill provides more stability for these projects by bringing in more public input, Alberta Energy Minister Sonya Savage doesn’t buy it.

“That’s just a garbage piece of argument. They’ve been working on that Bill for three years and it’s supposedly taking consultation and input. At every step of the way, industry told them that it was an owner’s process.”

Savage said the energy sector constantly shouted about the Bill’s shortfalls but the feds chose to ignore those concerns.

The Alberta government has vowed to fight the Bill over its constitutional validity, taking the battle to the Supreme Court of Canada if need be.

With the next Federal Election just weeks away, Savage hopes voters will think twice before casting their ballots.

“This is a very divisive Federal government under Justin Trudeau. It’s a government that doesn’t know the boundaries between federal and provincial jurisdiction. It’s not only Bill C-69 that’s problematic, it’s Bill C-48, the tanker ban, the carbon tax.”
