Small plane crash near Black Diamond seriously injures two men

BLACK DIAMOND (660 NEWS) — A small plane crash south of Calgary has left two men with serious injuries.

STARS ambulance was sent to an open field four kilometres southeast of Black Diamond around 11:40 a.m. Saturday according to Adam Loria, a spokesperson with EMS.

One of the men was airlifted to Foothills Medical Centre with serious, non-life-threatening injuries after paramedics determined his condition was urgent. His counterpart was taken to the hospital by ground ambulance.

The two-seater plane crashed shortly after takeoff from a rural landing strip close by. The plane was headed to High River at the time.

A frequent flyer in the area says there are several private airstrips in the area.

Turner Valley RCMP say Transport Canada has been contacted and an investigation into the cause is ongoing.
