Cavalry FC fans wondering where the lights went

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Soccer fans in Calgary were left in the dark Wednesday night.

It happened around the 70th minute of the game between Cavalry FC and the Montreal Impact.

“The sun was on a similar part of the horizon as it normally is,” said Ryan Pinder with Sportsnet 960 The Fan. “There was actually a huge dark cloud on the horizon that got in front of it so I think there would have been a lot more light in a normal circumstance.”

Pinder pointed out there was only one light fixture lighting the field.

One fan posted a picture on Redditt showing the dark field, saying he could barely see the ball in the last 25 minutes.

The fan also worries about what will happen in the fall as the Canadian Premier League season goes until the middle of October.

Looking ahead, Pinder says he’s not worried about that.

“It’s year one of this league. They’re continuing to make adjustments, it’s only smoother and smoother getting people in and out and with a lot of the logistics of having 6,000 people show up for a few hours. It’s probably a learning experience for the club. They’ll be better for it moving forward.”

We’ve reached out to Spruce Meadows, where Cavalry FC played for comment on the lights at the field.
