Stoney Trail reopens after police investigation of suspicious package

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Calgary police have no reopened Stoney Trail NE between McKnight Blvd. and 96 Ave. NE.
A suspicious package prompted Calgary police to shut down a stretch of highway on Stoney Trail. Police say the package appears to have been a firework.

Southbound traffic was being diverted off of Stoney Trail at Country Hills Blvd.
Calgary Police members are currently investigating a suspicious item located on Stoney Trail NE between McKnight Blvd NE and 96 Ave NE. Please avoid the area until the situation is resolved. #YYCTraffic #YYC

Police asked drivers to avoid the area while experts try to determine the nature of the package.
It was found at the side of the road around 11 a.m.
