Rutherford scholarship applications back online: Nicolaides

Late Tuesday- the province announced that technical issues have been fixed and provincial scholarships will be on time.

EDMONTON – After concerns were raised on the weekend, Alberta’s Advanced Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides said the Rutherford Scholarship is now accepting applications.

The Alberta Student Aid website said a major technology upgrade expected to be completed by late autumn will streamline the application and payment process for scholarships and awards.

STATEMENT FROM MINISTER DEMETRIOS NICOLAIDES

One of the programs affected was the Rutherford Scholarship, named after Alberta’s first premier and minister of education, which can be worth up to $2500 per student.

Nicolaides said the Rutherford Scholarship should never have been affected by the technology upgrade, and the confusion was due to a miscommunication within the department.
