Fate of the iconic Stampede Elm up in the air

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The fate of an iconic tree in a parking lot near the Saddledome is still unknown.

The Calgary Municipal Land Corporation and the Calgary Stampede say that it is too early in the planning process to know the fate of a Heritage Elm Tree.

The sprawling “Vic Park Tree” also known as the “Stampede Elm” is believed to have been planted in the late 1800s.

The martini glass shaped tree has survived all these years, despite development in the area.

The issue, though, is the tree sits where the new Calgary arena is supposed to be built.

It is unclear if the tree could be moved to another location or not.
