Virginia Beach city staffer fired for comments on shooting

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Virginia Beach city employee has been fired and charged with disturbing the peace because supervisors say she threatened them during a meeting.
It’s the second time a city worker has been arrested for disturbing the peace in the wake of the deadly shooting that killed 12.
Recordings obtained by the Virginian-Pilot show city supervisors held a meeting in the weeks following the mass shooting by a separate city employee. That’s when complainants say 48-year-old human services worker Elizabeth Mann told managers the shooting could have been prevented. The paper reports recordings of the meeting show Mann told a supervisor they were the type of person who pushed the shooter to act.
The complaint alleged Mann used an aggressive tone that scared staff. Mann maintains she never raised her voice or stood up. She has a court date set.
