REGINA (660 NEWS) — A new reality begins for the Calgary Stampeders this weekend against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell has been placed on the six-game injured list with what’s believed to be a pectoral injury.
The roster move means pivot Nick Arbuckle will make his first career CFL start.
Arbuckle went 9-for-9 in passing for 93 yards in relief of Mitchell in Calgary’s 36-22 Week 3 win over the B.C. Lions. He completed the Stamps’ comeback from 21 points down.
“He knows what he’s doing,” head coach Dave Dickenson said of 25-year-old Arbuckle Thursday after practice. “He’s never had to deal with the crowd noise and being on the road. It’s not like he hasn’t played in big games in college, but it’s been awhile. I think Nick will handle that fine. It’s just the challenge of going up against big defence.”
This marks Arbuckle’s second year on Calgary’s active roster. He played college ball at Georgia State, setting records in completions and touchdowns.
The Stampeders have opened the 2019 campaign with a 1-1 record.
