CALGARY (660 NEWS) – RCMP continue to search for a man in his 20’s in the Highwood River.

Mounties say the man went missing in the water at approximately 8:53 Sunday evening near Nature’s Hideaway Family Campground, about 20 minutes southeast of Calgary.

The victim is said to have disappeared below the surface while cliff jumping with friends.

Okotoks RCMP, Foothills Fire Department and Central Alberta Rescue Diving Society (CARDS) Dive Team spent the morning and early afternoon continuing to search for the missing swimmer.

The Foothills Fire Department dragged the bottom of the river and the CARDS Dive Team completed their search. Unfortunately, they have not been able to locate the man.

The Foothills Fire Department will continue to make patrols of the river.

With recent rise of the water in the area the current is strong and turbulent.

660 News listener Candace called in from the campground saying a number of people had been jumping and partying throughout the evening.

“We saw a big party, there is a spot where you can jump off the cliffs into the water and it was full of people,” said Candace.

RCMP Constable Chantelle Kelly passed on a message to anyone who may be in the area.

“If you see anything please let the RCMP know.”

The identity of the man has not been released.
